Brenna

None of us get through life without some body blows. It comes with the turf. Everyone’s struggles are unique to them and none of us can truly understand what others go through.

Walking in someone else’s shoes is simply a trite expression. We take so many things for granted like the ability to walk. Not everyone is so fortunate.

I would like you to take a few minutes to hear Brenna’s story. She was born premature and weighed 1.5 pounds at birth. The fact that she is alive today is nothing short of miraculous. It is a testament to her strength and that of her remarkable parents, Nora and Al.

Brenna needs an expensive surgery in the United States. Please click on the link below and watch the brief video on her GoFund Me page. Please consider making a donation to give this small warrior the opportunity to do something that most of us never even think about.

Thank you.

In Nora’s words:

This is Brenna’s story. She is a full fledged miracle child. She has defied all odds when she was born at 24 weeks gestation. She sounded like a kitten when we first heard her little cry when she was born. I would do anything for this little human, she is my world. Posting this video makes me feel very vulnerable, it is extremely out of my comfort zone but that doesn’t matter because I want Brenna to get what she deserves and more! She is a warrior, she works so hard every day to learn basic tasks that come easily for most developing children.

The surgery that Brenna will receive in New York will help decrease her daily pain, it will give her so much more confidence and it will change her life for the better. Unfortunately, we are unable to book the surgery until we have the funds to pay in full.

Please donate if you can or SHARE this video to as many people as you can.

“I’m back in the saddle again,

Out where a friend is a friend.”

Back in The Saddle Again – Gene Autry

When you have an itch, you just have to scratch it.

I am three months removed from working in a school. Even though I found teaching at an advanced age very challenging, I liked the pace. I know, I know. I should be relaxing at the age of 70 but as I’ve said many times before, I will have lost of time to rest once I’ve “slipped the surly bonds of earth.”

I have spent the past three months doing a lot of reading, writing, walking, and watching Netflix. These things get you through the day but are not necessarily purposeful. A few months ago, I decided to apply to become a substitute teacher with the Strait School Board. Just last week, the final pieces fell into place, and I am now officially on the list. It didn’t take long for the phone to ring. If the first few days are any indication, I will spend a lot of time prowling the halls of the three town schools.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to accept any of the job postings. The aftereffects of Covid are like a house guest who overstays their welcome and won’t take the hint to leave. I still have lingering symptoms and until they clear up, I will have to stay put and take it easy. The good news is that I have used this time to get a good head of steam on my new book. I have started to do the initial edit. I am in no hurry to finish. I don’t have a publisher breathing down my neck.

The 10th and final Week45 podcast is now available. https://youtu.be/P5kgW4bOhBE. It is a long one (almost 51 minutes). It might require a second cup of coffee (or glass of wine!). I must say that it is my favourite. Peter went out of his way to give people a really good visual picture of Canada with his amazing photos. He also spent a lot of time adding harmony lines to the songs along with some great guitar riffs. He’s a real pro. If you ever need to have a project that requires postproduction, Peter is more than capable to do the job. He’s a perfectionist and takes great pride in his work.

As I told him, having these 10 podcasts is a great keepsake for both of us. We are grateful for the time we spent together on our travels and to relive these experiences with the podcasts is a gift.

Have a great weekend.

In Episode 10 of the Week45 podcast, Pete and Len talk about travelling across Canada from west to east and then east to west. Lots of great photos by Pete and some songs that depict our great country.
