BREAKING NEWS!
Is it just me or is everything that comes through the news feed, breaking news? Every media outlet is screaming at us to get our attention so that we will go to their site… and ultimately buy something from their sponsors. Sorry. That’s the cynic in me. By the way, I’m just about ready to get a few lessons from Justin and track down Tie Domi and lay a beating on him if I hear that Comwave ad one more time!
I want to pass along this lovely comment that I received the other day after posting the story about Betty Webber. “ You’re doing a great job Len bringing happy stories when everything on the news and social media focuses on the negative.” ( Thanks GW ) Indeed, we are being bombarded by a deluge of bad news every waking minute of our lives. Mass shootings, terrorist attacks, war, floods , forest fires and Donald trump. It can be very discouraging.
I am not suggesting that we all stick our heads in the sand and “ disengage” but I think it’s bad for our health to consume a steady diet of negativity.
I think the best that most of us can do is to get up each day and put one foot in front of the other… and if you can do this simple task, be grateful because there are many that can’t. Try to consciously do small acts of kindness on a daily basis. Try and understand and appreciate that not everyone shares our religion or politics. Look at “differences” as positives. Accept others who sexual orientation doesn’t quite jive with our own. Be welcoming of strangers and new people to our community, especially those escaping the ravages of war.
Now that I have let the cat out of the bag about my travels to India, I want to answer a question posed to me many times. Why? Why would you leave the safety of home and travel to a country of over one billion people and endure crowded streets, poverty and oppressive heat ?
Please see the quote at the top of the page. I believe that one of the keys to good health and happiness is to keep learning. I think it will be fascinating to be one of those who is “different.” It will be interesting to see what it feels like to be a minority. I will be sharing my stories and insights as I travel throughout India.
In my work with the non profit group, I may not be able to do much… but I can do something.
Lots of great “Faces in the Crowd” stories coming your way.
Have a wonderful week.
